2014 01 09 SeedSeq

Doreen is attending this planning workshop on 'SeedSeq and the Digital Seed Bank'. The two initiatives jointly focus on the characterization of crop biodiversity present in our seed banks to unlock this information for crop improvement and food security. The focus of the meeting is based on the outcome of a 2012 consultation at Asilomar (see McCouch et al. 2013 Nature 499.7456) and the decision of the Global Plant Council to launch the Digital Seed Bank (DSB) initiative. The goal for the joint SeedSeq/DSB workshop is to have a frank and open discussion with key scientists around the globe to assess the value of a global initiative on crop biodiversity and if so, how it could be accomplished.
