Required Workshop Prep
1. CyVerse Account
- If you haven't done so, please get your free account at https://user.cyverse.org/
- Please register with an institutional email account as only this will give you access to the CyVerse cloud service Atmosphere (see next bullet). Please avoid gmail, yahoo, hotmail and the like for your CyVerse registration as you would not be able to register for Atmosphere with those.
2. Atmosphere Access
- Once you have your account, go to https://user.cyverse.org/services/mine. In the My Services tab, you should see Atmosphere. If not, go to Available Services and click the Request Access link for Atmosphere. Indicate that you are attending a workshop when you are asked for justification. (This will only be granted if you registered for CyVerse using an institutional account; see above.)
3. Computer requirements
- You should bring you own Wi-Fi enabled laptop and charger (A limited number of computers will be available on site). It is helpful to have administrative requirements if software installations are needed. Each workshop has a minimal set of requirements (bullets below), but in general, most laptops that can run the latest version of Firefox or Safari (recommended browsers) will have no problem connecting.
- Data Carpentry Installation Recommendations: See bottom of this page: https://jasonjwilliamsny.github.io/2018-05-16-uno/
- Tip: At a bare minimum - PC users will want to install PuTTY. Most other software needs are optional as we will be working on cloud instances.
