There are many ways to upload your data to your data store. Why do it? That way you can store it, share it with anybody you want (it's for your eyes only otherwise), and you can use it with the Discovery Environment, Atmosphere, COGE, etc.

iCommands - My Favorite
It uses iRODS. It's a very fast, very solid set of command line tools. But you need to install them and use them on the command line, including on your desktop computer (if you want to use them there).
