Caitlin Smallwood:
Caitlin Smallwood is the VP of data science at Netflix. She is involved in engineering that powers applications and functions across Netflix. Examples of these functions are things like: decision support through metrics, insights, predictive models, and analytic tools. Additionally, she helped research & develop new models and algorithms that directly improve the Netflix service. Coupled with consumer and user research to directly learn about people's experiences, needs, and wishes, Caitlin played a pivotal role within the Netflix data science team.
Peter Norvig:
Peter Norvig is the standing director of research at Google. He is highly accredited within the data science and machine learning communities which comes at no surprise considering his PhD in Computer Science. Peter is the co-author of a very popular textbook in the field of artificial intelligence: Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach. Additionally, he has hosted many presentations ranging from topics like theorizing from data, Web Search as a Product of and Catalyst for AI, and The Ethics and Politics of Search Engines. Lastly, Peter has an impressive background of positions in various technical industries: Director of Research; formerly Search Quality, Machine Learning, Stanford University Instructor, NASA Ames Research Center Division Chief, Computational Sciences, Chief Scientist, Chief Designer, and Senior Scientist.
Retrospective (Presentation Postmortem):
Good: Quickly assembled a line of communication, allowed us to coordinate workflow.
Bad: We tended to procrastinate, led to working near the deadline
Ugly: Used a line of communication that was unfamiliar to one student, led to them being left out.
Do Differently: Use phone numbers, or something more direct.
