  • Data in iPlant (Matt V)
  • iPlant's plans for PAG (Matt V)

Notes

General Business

  • There is an iPlant workshop at CSHL next week.

Demo of DE 0.6

  • Improvements in user interface and tool integration
  • Improvements in stability, performance, authentication. Solid back end now.
  • Integration of TACC resources
  • Walked through “Apps”
    • Launched a job in Peak Ranger
    • Showed how to customize an existing application, publish it to “Beta”
    • Walked through “Data”
  • Examples of integration with TACC
    • Abyss assembler
    • Trinity assembler
      • Can be run on Lonestar or Blacklight simply by user indicating size of job.
  • This transparent scalabiliy differentiates iPlant from Galaxy.
  • An analysis is something that has been done. An app is the software that does it.

Future development of DE

  • Pretty high degree of certainty about which features will be developed and when.
  • iPlant’s Cloud Storage Data Store will be highlighted at PAG
  • By 1.0, shared files will be visible and accessible in DE.
    • Users control them.
    • Wanted to expand the iRODs model
      • iPlant community spaces are directories in iRODS that live in a different space, the iPlant “shared” space. (e.g., genome data, perpetual tree, maybe 1KP data)
      • Can have multiple administrators.
      • Eventually community administration will be handled automatically.
      • In one respect is like an FTP site, but will have fine-grained permissions management with high security.
      • Geo-replication between UA and TACC. Tape back-ups so files can be recovered.
      • Takes many data management tasks off backs of informatics managers.
  • Next Major feature in DE is Pipelines.
    • For 1.0 will be linear pipelines.
    • Branching and looping will come later.
    • Demo’d “Automate workflow” (in the dev environment)
    • Can have private and public workflows.
  • RG: Do references already have to be in DE?
    • MV: Not any more. Soon users will be able to add their own reference genomes
    • 40 species currently supported in DE.
  • Advanced data management will be in 1.0.
  • We’re discussing how to do visualization. Some pieces are in place.
