iPG2P Steering Committee

Attendees: Karla Gendler, Dan Stanzione, Doreen Ware, Ed Buckler, Jeff White, Matt Vaughn, Ruth Grene, Steve Gofff, Steve Rounsley, Steve Welch, Tom Brutnell

1. Identify candidate biological use cases, with final choices to be made a t the next meeting (30 minutes)

Look at a specific metabolic pathways, integrate expression data where available (effects of ABA at the molecular and biochemical levels, and signaling)

Pathway viewer component, large data set to populate U4 photosynthesis, link to association studies identifying gene candidates for yield (analyzing maize sequencing)

What are the SNPs states in maize lines?

What nucleotides in maize and Arabidopsis associate with flowering time?

Other candidate species could possibly be used: Sorghum (sequenced), soy beans (sequenced), wheat and barley (not likely to be sequenced in next year), Solancea

Water-use efficiency/Nitrogen-use efficiency/Heterosis in maize versus sorghum

2. Describe how developers employ “user stories” (Matt Vaughn – 5/10 minutes)
See presentation.

Steering Committee requests direct contact with developers, but direct communication is via the Engagement Team, with a developer from the Cyberinfrastructure team sitting on the Engagement Team.

3. Discuss how our postdocs and use cases might be combined to generate one (set of?) user stories (15-20 minutes)

If a plant biologist, they are distilling leads ideas and working with developers. They need to be embedded in the process and responsive to the ET members. They will try out things and answered very detailed questions. They should embody the users that the working groups will support. They’ll also work toward publications. Postdocs could bridge working groups, ex. NGS and Data Integration. Postdoc duties will change over time.

4. List/assign immediate action items (5 minutes)

Doreen will look at sorghum, wheat, and barley

Ruth with look at Solancea

Dan K will look at soybeans

Dan S, Matt, and Karla will supply names iPlant contacts to work with each working group

Next Meeting time: Next Tuesday, 2pm CST
