August 24, 2010; 2 to 3 pm EDT
Present: Dan Kliebenstein, Ed Buckler, Greg Abram, Jeff White, Karla Gendler, Steve Goff, Steve Welch, Ruth Grene, Chris Jordan, Matt Vaughn, Tom Brutnell, Doreen Ware, Dan Stanzione
Notes/Agenda:
- Matt Vaughn's Slides
- VA Prototype demo
- Over the last several months, lots of discussion and diligent analysis about what a G2P conceptual workflow would look like and how it would work
- Has become somewhat real in the last few months,
- Demoed prototype
- Example of a domain specific DE (like DNA Subway) that is based on sustainable software practices
- Brutnell: first time has seen this and thinks it is fantastic;
- Ends up in Arabidopsis but could end up in rice as the tools do exist, which they don’t for Zea mays yet
- when you go to iPlant API, you might have to search by species and find homologs
- Photosynthesis models could be filtered into efp style displays
- Could go to rice to look at gene expression networks to get candidate zea mays genes
- Genome Services
- TNRS might want to test with germplasms
- Types of services and benefits we provide to sources will be dependent on how embedded we become with other organizations
- Will probably have to create a hack to convert from NCBI/EBI
- Instead of guessing, would be best to have a conversation/active discussion with them
- Stanzione suggested to meet NCBI people while at PGRP
- Ware will start email thread and try to schedule that meeting
- Road map of specific science packages as web services
- "Viewers" and "Data Sinks"
- API
Next meeting time: Tuesday, September 7 at 2pm EDT
