Google Summer of Code
Jamie is offering to be a mentor to help extend TR through student participation in the 2011 PhyloSOC Google Summer of Code project. (http://socghop.appspot.com/gsoc/program/home/google/gsoc2011 projects) This is sponsored by NESCent and the specific info for a potential TR project is at http://informatics.nescent.org/wiki/Phyloinformatics_Summer_of_Code_2011#Tree_Reconciliation. We currently just have a placeholder there, Jamie would like feedback on what useful additions to TR could be accomplished by a student coder working 20-40 hours a week over the summer (~ 10 weeks). In order o be able to present a proposal, the group feels that that they require a better overview of the tool's code and architecture. In this respect the release of the code and its documentation is a priority.
Jamie also needs iPlant to indicate possible co-mentors that would be available to support work on the various components.
TR tool further development
The working group gave feedback on the standalone demo of the TR tool and identified several problems and possible improvement. Given that iPlant core software won't be able to work on this project any further, Todd wants to know how this changes are going to be implemented. Naim replies that it will be a responsibility of the WG but Todd points out that the WG doesn't have the means to maintain and improve the code. Naim clarify that iPlant will keep providing support and that he will check with Sheldon what resources can be made available. Naim also points out that many of the improvements and fixes can be handled by either Jamie, Naim or Adam Kubach from the TreeViz group. The notable exception is changes to the UI, given that the group doesn't have access to the code. Naim will split up the table according to the affected components so that they can be handled by the right people.
Security
The 1KP data will need to be password protected until the paper's publication, ideally using group access.
Other
The group will keep meeting twice a month and communicate via email between meetings. Naim to send out the meeting Agenda one week before the meeting. WG members to send topics to Naim.
