This was a short WebEx discussion between the following:

Overview

  • Discussion of the Tree Visualization group's Use Case #2 and it's relation to Tree Reconciliation needs
    • Background - NESCent discussion between Andrew L. & Todd Vision [summary]
    • Fat Tree
    • Clickable interaction w/ Tree Viewer
      • In working through requirements (NESCent Visit), a clickable interaction available from a Tree Viewer will be essential in providing Target TR Users with a proper interface
        • However, a prototype version may look to include different approaches. But in a final version of the Discovery Environment Perspective for Tree Reconciliation - this ability will be priority.
  • Adam demo'd an OpenLayers tree viewer that enables panning and zooming in a "Google Maps" like interface. (link)
    • discussion of a need to creating "clickable areas" or "hotspots" for user interaction
    • need to be able to map "events" (in Tree Reconciliation context: Gene Duplication/Loss, Horizontal Transfer, etc)
  • Hyperbolic Tree & Tree Reconciliation
    • Want to provide 'semantic zooming'
    • "Linked Hyperbolic" approach
      • This approach needs to be explored in a future Tree Reconciliation working group meeting (and Andrew L. needs to give advance warning to Adam when this is on the agenda).
        • Target for including this topic is March 15, but will be discussed March 1
    • Shapley's Green Plants Tree
    • JavaScript InfoViz Toolkit (a.k.a. JIT)
