Proposed sampling protocol for characterizing pastures
Select pastures which are planned to be grazed this fall.
Conduct basic landscape analyses to establish the range of variability within and across pastures (upland, lowland, riparian areas, etc).
Prioritize the location of several monitoring transects which will be repeated throughout the study.
Fly UAV over monitoring transects immediately prior to field work.
Fly UAV over monitoring transects immediately prior to cattle being placed in pasture.
(Optional) Fly UAV over monitoring transects while cattle are in pasture.
Conduct post-grazing field transect measurements immediately after cattle have be
en removed from the pasture.
Fly UAV over transects immediately after cattle have been removed from the pasture.
