You can add and edit graphical annotations to a resource you own. You also can add textual (metadata) annotations.

Graphical annotations are graphical objects, such as circles, points, or other shapes, that are added to the image in order to highlight areas of interest for future analysis or other purposes. Adding a graphical annotation to an image in Bisque does not alter the original image.

Once you have added a graphical annotation to an image, you can move, resize, delete, and show or hide the object on the image.

The graphical annotation types are:

  • Circles
  • Ellipses
  • Labels
  • Lines
  • Points
  • Polygons
  • Polylines
  • Rectangles
  • Squares

Opening the Graphical Metadata window

  1. If necessary, log in to Bisque.
  2. Click Browse at the top of the screen and then click image.
  3. Click the image to annotate (the mode button will be ).
  4. In the Metadata panel on the right, click the Graphical tab:

    Tip

    If prompted that you are not the owner of the image, click Cancel, then download the image, rename it, and upload it as a new file to your Bisque repository.

Adding and editing graphical annotations

Circles

  1. In the Graphical tab, click circle in the Graphical annotations list on the right.
  2. Click the center point on the image where you want to add the circle.
  3. To edit the circle, select it in the Tree of annotations list:
    • To resize or move the circle, click one of the squares and drag to the desired diameter or location.
    • To change the color of the circle, click Color and then click the new color.
    • To delete a circle, click Delete in the Tree of annotations list.

Ellipses

  1. In the Graphical tab, click ellipse in the Graphical annotations.
  2. Click the location on the image where you want to add the ellipse.
  3. To edit the ellipse, select it in the Tree of annotations list:
    • To resize or move the ellipse, click one of the squares and drag to the desired size or location.
    • To change the color of the ellipse, click Color and then click the new color.
    • To delete an ellipse, click Delete in the Tree of annotations list.

Labels

  1. In the Graphical tab, click label in the Graphical annotations list on the right.
  2. Click the location on the image where you want to add the ellipselabel.
    • To edit the label, select it in the Tree of annotations list:

      Tip

      If the label doesn't show on the image, select label in the Tree of annotations list, click the Color icon, and click the new color.

    • To edit or move the label, click the label and either edit or move it to the new location.
    • To delete a label, click Delete in the Tree of annotations list.

Lines

  1. In the Graphical tab, click line in the Graphical annotations list on the right.
  2. Click the location on the image where you want to start the line, then click where you want to end the line.
  3. To edit the line, select it in the Tree of annotations list:
    • To move or resize the line, click a circle at the end of one of the lines and drag the line to the desired length.
    • To change the line color, click the Color icon and click the new color.
    • To delete a line, click Delete in the Tree of annotations list.

Points

Points are useful for marking a specific location on an image, such as the point where structures intersect.

  1. In the Graphical tab, click point in the Graphical annotations list on the right.
  2. Click the location on the image where you want to add the point.
    • To edit the point, select it in the Tree of annotations list:
      1. To move the point, click a square and move it to the new location.
    • To change the color, click the Color icon and click the new color.
    • To delete a point, click Delete in the Tree of annotations section.

Polygons

  1. In the Graphical tab, click polygon in the Graphical annotations list on the right.
  2. Click the location on the image where you want to add the first point of the polygon.
  3. Repeat for each point of the polygon to add until the polygon is formed.
  4. To edit the polygon, select it in the Tree of annotations list:
    • To resize or move the polygon, click one of the squares and drag to the desired size, shape, or location.
    • To change the color, click Color and then click the new color.
    • To delete a polygon, click Delete in the Tree of annotations list.

Polylines

  1. In the Graphical tab, click point in the Graphical annotations list on the right.
  2. For the first polyline:
    1. Click the location on the image where you want to add the first point of the polygon.
    2. Repeat for each point of the polygon to add.
  3. To edit the polyline, select it in the Tree of annotations list:
    • To resize or move the polyline, click one of the squares and drag to the desired size or location.
    • To change the color, click Color and then click the new color.
    • To delete a polyline, click Delete in the Tree of annotations list.

Rectangles

  1. In the Graphical tab, click rectangle in the Graphical annotations list on the right.
  2. Click the location on the image where you want to add the rectangle.
  3. To edit the rectangle, select it in the Tree of annotations list:
    • To resize or move the rectangle, click one of the squares and drag to the desired size or location.
    • To change the color, click Color and then click the new color.
    • To delete the polyline, click Delete in the Tree of annotations list.

Squares

  1. Click square in the Add annotations list on the right.
  2. Click the location on the image where you want to add the square.
  3. To edit the square, select it in the Tree of annotations list:
    • To resize or move the square, click one of the small squares and drag to the desired size or location.
    • To change the color, click Color and then click the new color.
    • To delete a square, click Delete in the Tree of annotations list.

Hiding or showing graphical annotations

You can change the visibility setting of a graphical annotation on a per-item basis or for all graphical annotations on the image.

  • To hide or display selected annotations, click Visibility and then click either Toggle each, Check all, or Uncheck all.
