Homework 1 - Team 4

Homework 1 - Team 4

Data scientists:

Male: Geoffrey Hinton: For the male scientist we choose Geoffrey Hinton. He has experience in Machine Learning, AI, and particularly Deep Learning and Neural Networks. His ideas and research in Neural Networks have changed the way we think about Cyber Infrastructure and machine learning. Neural Networks is the idea of storing and sending data similar to the way that the brain preserves and communicates between neuro sensors in the brain.

Female: Corinna Cortes: For the female scientist we chose Corinna Cortes, she is known to be an influential data scientist. She is mostly known for earning the Paris Kanellakis Theory and Practice Award for her theory in machine learning. She is also currently working as a VP in google research for data science. She developed support vector machines(SVM) with Vladimir Vapnik. Corinna Cortes also helped write the data mining programming language Hancock.

Retrospective Analysis:

  • Good: Everyone was able to set time to work on the assignment together and collaboration was easily done. Everyone was willing to help each other out.

  • Bad: The presenter didn’t prepare well enough. They were reading too much off of the slides. As a team, we should have gone over and practiced presenting the material prior to the due date.

  • Ugly: Slides were too wordy and a bit confusing, we should have summarized the points instead.

  • Do differently: Should have assigned/chosen parts to make it less confusing in the beginning and not assign last minute tasks to make sure everyone gets participation in. Include speaker notes in the slides.
